Denver Restaurant Week

Saturday was the first night of Denver Restaurant Week. This sweet thing here and I went to Max Gill and Grill for a tasty seafood treat. We started with a great selection of oysters, three varieties, two of which I enjoyed very much. The other I didn't care for one bit. We followed the oysters with some P.E.I Mussels served with some really, really deliciousgrilled bread. When the next course came, Paul had the cioppino, which had good flavor, but we both felt was overcooked, and I had the lobster roll, which was absolutely delicious. For dessert we split the best key lime pie I've had in a very long time. Yummy.
Sunday the ladies met for dinner at mirepoix, which I can only recap as being disappointingly bland but relatively uneventful.
Until the next day, when I woke up, the nausea washed over me, and I didn't stop throwing up for the next 13 or so hours. Three or four times an hour. All. Day. Long. It is the most unpleasant experience I have ever had.
Tuesday we had reservations at Duo restaurant which we had to cancel because I couldn't eat anything but saltine crackers.
We were able to reschedule for Wednesday, and I am so glad we did. My mom and I met for an early dinner, and it was the best meal I've had in a very long time. The asparagus soup was mild, the pork perfectly roasted and served in an amazing jus, the gnocchi served in a mushroom ragu that, well lets just say I had no idea mushrooms could taste so good, and I love mushrooms. And then dessert. When I was little I learned that you could remember that desert was spelled with one "s" and dessert was spelled with two because dessert is "twice as nice". Well this dessert was thrice as nice. Light, creamy, flavorful they called it frozen pistachio "nougat", and described it on the menu as "delicious goodness". When I asked our waitress for a more telling description, she had none to give but her eyes lit up when I asked. I 'm sorry to say that I have no better words to describe it, but that my mouth is watering right now just thinking about how good it was. So good that I'd like to roll around naked on it, and I wouldn't even worry about ruining my favorite (antique!) bedspread. Mmmmm, I want some more.

Then came the dancing

I said we went at about 8 right? That means it's time for a photo shoot all alone on the dance floor. We are a little ridiculous.

Then came the winking

This is apparently my signature move after a few cocktails.

I met Jill for Happy Hour in Boulder. We ended up going dancing. Early. Like at 8.

Murphy's New Baby

My Grandma sent me this stuffed monkey for Valentines day. Murphy quickly appropriated it for himself. It has certainly (but temporarily I'm sure) replaced his beloved Snoopy as his favorite baby. Last week I was sick, and moping around the house. I did manage to make this delicious (and healthy!) dinner. Fresh, home made eggplant ravioli with fresh shaved Romano-Pecorino cheese, and a nice glass of dry red wine. Deliscioso!

Baseball! Baseball! Baseball!

I received this e-mail this morning.

"pitchers and catchers arrive tomorrow.
please be prepared.

thanks for your appreciation of my disease."

I don't even know what this means.

Mmmm Wingies

Murphy never gets tired of having his picture taken. Ah, unconditional love. With only five minutes of crisping up time left, my grill ran out of juice. However, I was able to finish them up under the broiler, and they were delish! I am now a convert, one more thing that is definitely better grilled. Seriously, how cute is my dog!

New Years Eve Day/ New Years Day

It occured to me that while I am waiting to rercieve pictures of New Years Eve, I could go ahead and post these (decent) picture I took with my phone. Sarah was awesome enough to take me to the last (unfortunately) Denver Broncos game of the season. The Broncos lost in overtime, it was freezing (we were in the south stands, no sun) but it was a blast.
This is Sarah and me at brunch New Years day, and boy did we think we were hot shit. I think we must have still been drunk from the night before. Dig if you will the cheap sunnies. And the bright lipstick. And the unbelievably bad service. Skip Tom's Diner unless you have no other options, and you don't mind waiting more than an hour for your breakfast.
