Hair Ennui

I am having hair restlessness. I want to change it, maybe lighten it, maybe chop it. I don't know what I want to do, but I have hair ennui. Something different everyday, but the constant in all of this is:

I am having bang envy.

Bear in mind, I haven't forgotten the unfortunate bang incident of '03.

Let this be a lesson to you, do not, under any circumstances and no matter how many dirty Grey Goose martini's you may have had, decide to give yourself at-home bangs.

Especially not whilst still under the influence of said martinis.

That said, I have learned my lesson, and I think the real problem with these bangs is that they were sort of cop out bangs. For bangs to look good you need to really commit.

Like my friend Jilly here.

Those are some serious bangs and super cute to boot. But I know I'm nowhere near ready for that much bang.

The particular bangs I would love are seen here, on adorable blogger Kyla Bea, before her new 'do. (Her new 'do is cute too, but I covet her old 'do)

I'm putting it to a vote. Let me know what you think in the comments. And don't be shy, if you think NO BANGS, please say so before I get to cutting.

go for it! might want to wait until AFTER the wedding--just in case you hate hate hate them. But other than that, I think it'll look super cute. and if you do hate them, just grow them out!

also--I had to do a triple take on Ivory's crotch area for the picture number 1. It looks like she has a flowerless flower. All look super cute in the picture.

Thanks for coveting any of my looks! lol = )
When I went to get my haircut I demanded that they leave my bangs alone! I love them too much.

The difference that I found is that the way she cut them was slightly arched so it frames my face a little bit more than when they're perfectly straight across. They have a very blunt look, but it's a little more flattering.

Good luck! I'm excited for your before & afters!

I gave myself at-home bangs a couple of months ago. And made the mistake of pulling them taught and giving a big, swift chop. They instantly shrunk when I let them go and I was left totally mortified and in headbands for a week or two. Buuuuuuut I tried again. A few days ago! I brushed my hair into where I thought the bangs should go, and took a pair of scissors and cut upwards kind of at an angle so I had to do small piece by piece. And it WORKED! Kind of. I still have Kyla Bea envy (this girl has the best bangs in the world, come rain, come shine, come Winnipeg winter!!) but I did save myself $20 :)

I honestly think you look nice without bangs. If you could get those bangs of the girl with the dark hair, I think that would look really good.

Your at home/martini bangs crack me up!

Oh yeah, that is not a very good bang picture of me...there have got to be a better pic of me displaying my bangs.

I'm not sure if I should be allowed to vote or not, but I'm kinda on the side of "no bangs".

Then again, I may be seeing the bangs more than you (depending on how much time you happen to spend looking in the mirror that day) so maybe my vote should count as two.

Have you had bangs before that you really liked?? Even for a day or two? Just askin cuz I think they are a lot of work to keep the right length and arch... And bangs like Jilly's are hot, but they would drive me crazy having hair in my face like that... I guess I vote no, but if you do get them and I am jealous, I will probably copy.

GET BANGIN'!

I don't think your at-home bangs are that bad (mind you, I live in Texas, and there are still people that wear foofy bangs if you know what I mean...) but I think you would look too cute in some longer, more fringed-out Jilly style bangs. Maybe even some swept to the side bangs.

You don't have to do them all straight and what not. Rock some texture up in there!

I love bangs on a girl so my vote is yes. Always yes.

I am with Jill that I really like your hair without the bangs, but if done right it would be pretty hot. My only vote is to maybe wait till after the wedding just in case....

i wished you had posted a photo of the 03 incident (albeit not your best effort) so a could picture it.

i love bangs but they are a lot of work. i've got my hot iron fired up constantly.

in my opinion you could pull off anything.

hmmm...

maybe wait til after the wedding, if your know what i'm sayin'.

I think with your facial shape you could go either way- bangs or not. Bibangsual, if you will.

They can be kind of high maintenance though.

I would go with longer bangs and layers around the face to warm up to it. then you can slowly go shorter. I wouldn't go as blunt with the bangs, go softer for now.

Sorry Lisa, my "flowerless flower" is just an upper thigh fat roll :)
I really like the pic of the hair you are coveting, I think you should go for it... hair always grows out.
Also, Emma has some styles that you are more than free to steal ;)

Reminded me of a funny site. But according to this you should definitely get bangs.

I think you should! I love Kyla Bea's hair both ways--her site is too cute! I don't have bangs so I never worry, if I did they would look like little coils due to the curls.

I like my bangs for sure, but I don't have amazing hair like yours all flowy and commercial like. I say go slowly towards the bang if you want...as Jessica suggested. Especially with the wedding coming up. As non-traditional as you are, my guess is that you still wouldn't like looking back at pictures if you hate your hair and will compare it to 2003.

Do NOT chop it off.

In other news, I thought I saw Jill yesterday on the Metro and almost said hi.

Blerg. My comment wouldn't post the first time.

Ok: IF you get bangs, do them short & choppy, not longer like you did in 03. That's my opinion. Also, I would wait til after the wedding. You will be sad if you have bad wedding hair!

Zandria said...

Totally feeling you! I've been thinking about bangs myself, but you're right -- it's a big commitment. I'll have to see how yours turn out before I make my decision! :)

I would definately wait until after the wedding and then go for the bangs. I would go with framing your face with longer layers and short bangs. Who am I but a stranger?

stacy said...

alrighty... i just popped by to see if you had a new post for today and took a closer look at the photo you had posted yesterday and realized it was a the 03 incident!!

yes i was enjoying some wine last night, but that doesn't look anything like you!

i'm not sure who i thought it was, but... not you.

soooo - hold off on the bangs for a while.

Also...check out go fug yourself. They have an opinion on Jessica Alba's new bangs. Don't do what Jessica did is the moral of this story.

ok i always want bangs. i love bangs on all types of people. i cut short cute bangs about 2 years ago. and i loved them! but only for the first like two hours after i did them. after that i hated them.

i wish i had good enough hair for bangs.

but for you just recall '03. if you didn't like them then, you're probs not going to like them now.
