I count myself among the truly fortunate to have enjoyed such a mutually beneficial breastfeeding relationship with my child. Low supply, crazy shift work, pumping in a steel mill, we had some pretty big obstacles to overcome; but I’m proud to say that at 16 months old Henry is still nursing.
Our nursing relationship has changed in the past few months, breastmilk is no longer his primary source of nutrition, but a suppliment. We nurse once or twice a day, sometimes skipping a couple days sometimes nursing morning to night. Henry no longer nurses during the night; our choice, and a tough one it was, but it was the right choice for our fmaily. It’s so nice to look back on these photos and see how our nursing relationship has evolved.
In those early days a little distraction was a necessity- see my trusty iPad.

Finally getting the hang of this thing

Learning how to nurse in a wrap changed my life! This was at Ikea! No need to find a place to sit down, just keep shopping!

This summer we’ve been nursing outside in the garden a lot

Even when Mama’s not in the mood

But really, what we would do if we couldn’t nurse in the wrap…

I love the power tools aisle picture! Way to go, Mama
My goober is ten months old and just starting to self-wean; he only nurses about 3-4 times a day now and I definitely get a tear in my eyes thinking about no more nursing!
If I’m half as successful at this as you are, I will be one happy mama!
beautiful!! wish i had more bf’ing shots! also wish we figured out how to nurse in the wrap – i guess it’s not too late
please please get some wrapping tutorials up!
I wonder if you might comment or do a post about what you think helped you to be so successful? I am 25 weeks pregnant right now and planning to nurse my baby boy as well, and I am trying to get as much information as I can from moms who have been there, done that!
Congrats on such a successful nursing relationship, and great pictures!
I would love to know of any resources to help me learn to wear and nurse my 7-month old! I had big plans of baby wearing while pregnant, but found it far too painful and uncomfortable to try while recovering from an emergency C-section, and by the time I felt up for it, baby seemed too big/unwieldy for the Moby. He doesnt mind being worn in our Beco carrier, but it seems like it would be too hard to nurse with all the straps in the way. He is 7-months old, 18 pounds… Starting solids but breastmilk (no formula) is his biggest source of nutrition – he is still nursing mornings and evenings and getting pumped milk while I am away at work. I try to nurse exclusively on the weekends to keep my supply up and give the pump a rest (plus, we both like it!) but since I havent been able to figure out how to nurse on the go, there is alot of sitting in the car or nursing under a cover in public. I would love any suggestions you have on finding the right wrap and any tutorials on how to nurse while wearing!
You have some mad skills! I really need to work on the feeding baby in a carrier thing, she so often wants to nurse wherever we are and it’s not really easy (or practical) to nurse a tall, wiggly 16 month old while walking and not wearing!
